Steiner Safari Pro 8x30
From Joe in Ohio:While these are nice looking and have pretty sharp focus they fall down badly elsewhere. These are the only binocular i know of anywhere near this price that are not multicoated. What that means is that there is lots of internal reflection. This causes the image to wash out and have low contrast. Don't even think of using these at night because every light source in view is surrounded with rings of light completely ruining the view. I just cannot believe Steiner would sell

Nikon Fieldscope 50
From Brian in Michigan:I am very happy with my purchase from Eagle Optics of the Nikon 13-30x50 scope. I purchased this to take on trips to easily fit in my pack rather than carrying it around airports like a heavy weapon that my Kowa 80mm is. The optics are exceptional, it is very portable of course yet durable as I discovered when I dropped it on the rocks on a mountainside in Peru. The case was slightly scratched but the alignment and integrity of the optics survived the fall without

Vortex Fury 6.5x32
From Mark in Michigan:
I bought to use for birding locally and for backpacking. I love the wide field of view, the brightness and great color of the optics. Spotting birds in flight is easy and I can take in larger landscape features. Handling is good for a compact(ish) sized binocular and the size is nice for backpacking (though they are not very light). The eyecups extend a full two stops to handle the long eye relief, and retracted these are great to use with glasses and sunglasses. They

Nikon Premier 8x32
From Brian in Michigan:I had my pair of these that I purchased from Eagle Optics while on a trip to Panama with a birding group. Several birders in the group had their larger 10x 42 Swarovskis. Two of them asked me (in a slightly condescending way)if the Nikon's were my "traveling" binoculars. I said no these are great and I take them everywhere. They showed me theirs to look through and they looked through mine. The reaction was not what they expected. Woa, these are good they said. I noticed

Nikon Action Extreme 7x35-"Jack of All Trades Binocular!"
From Cathy in Arkansas:I bought these for backyard use. I wanted a wide angle (487' @ 1000 yd / 161.68 m @ 1000 m), hand-held, sky view for star-gazing. I also wanted a wide-angle view for birdwatching. Hummingbirds move so fast, it can be difficult to follow them. A wide-angle view is also a must for fast action/large field sports. The Nikon Action Extreme 7x35 is perfect for these functions. I find that these have a very nice view due to depth of field, optics clarity and ease/accuracy of

Nikon EDG 8x32
All I can say is WOW! The 8x32 Edge is one superb instrument! I know binocular choice is a very personal thing and that each bin is a series of compromises. That being said, these bins fit THIS person to a “T”. I’m not going to go on about how bright and sharp and contrasty they are……or how well they fit the hand…..or the 18mm of eye relief (great for an 8x32)…..or the silky smooth focus……or the solid feeling of confidence in a finely crafted optic…..or…..well, you get the
Nikon Action 7x35
I bought a pair of these primarily for spring turkey hunting in S. Texas. Encountered light rain the first day out. Kept the binoculars tucked inside my shirt, but they still fogged up almost immediately and were totally useless. A pair of lower priced 10X50 Simmons my wife was using never fogged and worked perfectly. Nikons were obviously not properly vacuum sealed, but when I contacted Nikon they refused to honor their 25-year warranty, even though the binoculars were brand new. A company

A True Blue Moon
The brightest stars of two seasons outshine the full moon’s glare J. Alex Knoll Sunday’s full moon shines amid the stars of Taurus the bull. Ten degrees east of the moon you’ll find the red-giant Aldebaran. Half that distance to the moon’s west look for a small, fuzzy patch of light. So close to the moon’s glare, you may need binoculars to discern the stars of the Pleiades cluster. While this ...

None flew over the cuckoo's nest: A world without birds
Scanning the sky with his binoculars, he searches carefully for any sign of movement: the steady beat of a blackbird's wings, the fluttering of a flock of starlings. It has been a week now since he saw the starlings: just four of them flitting from tree to tree, feasting on the autumn berries.

Finding the Best Spotting Scope
Nature enthusiasts, hunters, sport spectators and bird watchers use spotting scopes in a variety of outdoor activities. A spotting scope enhances viewing capabilities and can cost a fair amount of money depending upon your requirements and how large of an investment you are willing to make. Scopes far exceed the viewing potential of binoculars.
