Manfrotto o55 XB tripod
From Mark in Pennsylvania:This is a big, solid, reliable, and extremely well-made tripod. The leg locks are the best I've seen: smooth and secure. It should be tall enough for anyone, even using a straight spotting scope. I'm 5'9" and with an angled scope I don't extend the center post at all, and don't even fully extend the legs. It is BIG. With a head on it, it is also LONG, but (for me at least) not too heavy to carry around. Of course, it is no trekking/backpacking tripod--far from it--but

Atlas Optics Intrepid ED
From Ted in Virginia:For the money I could not have done better, and I have to thank the staff at Eagle for recommending this purchase. I read complaints on the focus wheel being to slow, for me it is precise since I can read serial numbers on nameplates at a safe distance, say nothing of my fascination with birds. Every detail is clear from edge to edge, an old pair of 10x25 are permanently assigned to be battered up on a four wheeler. I have used them in foul weather with no adverse effects.

Bushnell Elite 20-60x80
From Steven in New York:I just purchased the Bushnell Elite 20-60x80mm Angled Spotting Scope. I needed a good clear scope for birding but couldn't afford to spend thousands of dollars on one. This scope is fantastic! It has the ED Glass lenses, a nice, smooth zoom 20-60x eyepiece, and a view-thru case. I find this scope to be more than adequate for my purposes. It is extremely crisp and clear, even at 60x. The zoom and focus knobs operate smoothly and easily, unlike some less expensive scopes

Leica Ultravid 10x42
Leica is all I'd hoped, and more. Five years ago I was a new birder with 30-year-old inexpensive binoculars. In researching online and talking with experienced birders, I heard that I should buy as much binocular as I could afford, after holding and trying many... I did, buying Leica, choosing the 10s over the 8s because I live in the west and wanted to see across our big skies. For daytime raptors, or early morning, late evening light gain, my Leicas beat anything I have borrowed or tried.

Leupold Yosemite 6x30
Impressive little binoculars I bought for a wider field of view while scouting and hunting. They are great carrying, lightweight and comfortable as I had hoped. Adjustments are positive and eyecups stay out -or in as desired. The eye relief is a bit long, meaning you won't me burying your eyes into these but will have to hold them just touching your brow. I looked at stars with results as expected- nice. These work great in legal hunting light and I would call them bright even -would not think

Pentax Papilio 6.5x21
From Dawn in Ohio:I recently purchased Pentax's Papilio 6.5x21 binos for butterfly watching. These are so much more than that. I am able to see tiny spiders on flowers, intricate details on plants, insects etc. Then if a bird catches my eye I can still focus far enough to enjoy them as well. My sister recently visited me and now she wants to buy my pair as I said I was going to buy the 8.5x21 as well. Pentax binos are always high quality at a good price. I own four different pair now and have

Nikon Monarch 8x42
I've owned these binoculars for more than three years now, and I'm still constantly impressed with how bright and sharp they are. I've tried other people's Leica and Swarovski binoculars, and there's very little to no noticeable difference in image quality. My only disappointment has been the durability of the eyecups. After I had used them for about a year, the plastic rings that hold the eyecups cracked, causing the eyecup bearings to fall out. This resulted in the eyecups regularly getting

Optics, close focus, focus speed and agility are on par with the top binos. Nice job Leica. Heavy binos - I think my 10x50 SLC's are lighter. Heavy and not a superb balance in the hand. Eye relief not that good for eye glass wearers. Try before you buy. Strap holders wont take my harness which meant some custom work and these heavy binos need a harness. 8x all day is great. 12x is great but ***superb*** if you tripod with gitzo carbon fiber. Eagle Optics Denali 8x42
I am very happy with my Denali 8x42 binoculars. My first priority was binoculars that focus clear and easily with my glasses on, and these work great with glasses. I tried a couple of other brands with similar twist up and down eye pieces for use with or without glasses, but none of the others worked well for me. Next priority was binoculars that were light weight with a bright clear field of vision and a reasonable price tag. Again these binoculars do it. The construction seems very sturdy and

Steiner Safari Pro 8x30
From Joe in Ohio:While these are nice looking and have pretty sharp focus they fall down badly elsewhere. These are the only binocular i know of anywhere near this price that are not multicoated. What that means is that there is lots of internal reflection. This causes the image to wash out and have low contrast. Don't even think of using these at night because every light source in view is surrounded with rings of light completely ruining the view. I just cannot believe Steiner would sell

Nikon Fieldscope 50
From Brian in Michigan:I am very happy with my purchase from Eagle Optics of the Nikon 13-30x50 scope. I purchased this to take on trips to easily fit in my pack rather than carrying it around airports like a heavy weapon that my Kowa 80mm is. The optics are exceptional, it is very portable of course yet durable as I discovered when I dropped it on the rocks on a mountainside in Peru. Vortex Fury 6.5x32
From Mark in Michigan:
I bought to use for birding locally and for backpacking. I love the wide field of view, the brightness and great color of the optics. Spotting birds in flight is easy and I can take in larger landscape features. Handling is good for a compact(ish) sized binocular and the size is nice for backpacking (though they are not very light). The eyecups extend a full two stops to handle the long eye relief, and retracted these are great to use with glasses and sunglasses. They

From Brian in Michigan:I had my pair of these that I purchased from Eagle Optics while on a trip to Panama with a birding group. Several birders in the group had their larger 10x 42 Swarovskis. Two of them asked me (in a slightly condescending way)if the Nikon's were my "traveling" binoculars. I said no these are great and I take them everywhere. From Cathy in Arkansas:I bought these for backyard use. I wanted a wide angle (487' @ 1000 yd / 161.68 m @ 1000 m), hand-held, sky view for star-gazing. I also wanted a wide-angle view for birdwatching. Hummingbirds move so fast, it can be difficult to follow them. A wide-angle view is also a must for fast action/large field sports. The Nikon Action Extreme 7x35 is perfect for these functions. I find that these have a very nice view due to depth of field, optics clarity and ease/accuracy of

Nikon EDG 8x32
All I can say is WOW! The 8x32 Edge is one superb instrument! I know binocular choice is a very personal thing and that each bin is a series of compromises. That being said, these bins fit THIS person to a “T”. I’m not going to go on about how bright and sharp and contrasty they are……or how well they fit the hand…..or the 18mm of eye relief (great for an 8x32)…..or the silky smooth focus……or the solid feeling of confidence in a finely crafted optic…..or…..well, you get the
Nikon Action 7x35
I bought a pair of these primarily for spring turkey hunting in S. Texas. Encountered light rain the first day out. Kept the binoculars tucked inside my shirt, but they still fogged up almost immediately and were totally useless. Nikons were obviously not properly vacuum sealed, but when I contacted Nikon they refused to honor their 25-year warranty, even though the binoculars were brand new. A company

Hunting Spotting Scopes
Ever since we stepped out of the caves we have had an insatiable desire to look at the stars. That desire has never gone away, and as a result Galileo invented the telescope. The modern telescope is fairly nice, but for those who enjoy watching nature it isn't quite as convenient. The spotting scope however is a decent device that will allow virtually anyone to take advantage of nature, seeing things as they like and ultimately have a much better experience.
