Under the sky's orange haze, bird-watchers peered through binoculars and listened for the loud, trumpeting call of sandhill cranes. There was chatter among the crowd gathered Friday evening at the Woodbridge Ecological Reserve, and then the long-legged birds began gliding into the Delta wetlands.
